Test 30A - Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) Problems

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B  after each repair.
  1. Using scan tool, select ELECTRONIC INST CLUSTER. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE FROM EIC or cluster is completely blank, go to TEST 31A . If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE FROM EIC and cluster is not completely blank, go to next step.
  2. Read Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) DTCs. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to TEST 32A . If scan tool does not display any DTCs, go to next step.
  3. Read cluster ID status. If scan tool does not display CLUSTER ID EIC US, go to TEST 33A . If scan tool displays CLUSTER ID EIC US, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, select PCM MONITOR under SYSTEM TESTS. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 107A . If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, actuate EIC ALL SEQUENTIAL SEGMENTS test. If any segment fails to light, replace EIC. If all segments light, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, actuate EIC ALL SEGMENTS ON test. If any segment fails to light, replace EIC. If all segments light, go to next step.
  7. Electro/mechanical instrument cluster system diagnostics are separated into 5 categories. Verify customer complaint and identify problem area before performing appropriate test. See the DIAGNOSING ELECTRO/MECHANICAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM  table below.
