First-Reverse Brake Pistons: Disassembly
- Remove bearing and race assembly from transmission case. See Fig 1
. Apply low air pressure to transmission case port and check for smooth operation of No. 1 and 2 first-reverse brake pistons. See Fig 2
.
- If pistons do not operate smoothly, transmission or piston may require replacement. Using Spring Compressor (7539), compress piston return springs. See Fig 3
. Remove snap ring. Remove spring compressor, piston return springs and retainer.
- Apply air pressure to passage in transmission case used to check first-reverse brake piston operation and remove No. 2 first-reverse brake piston. See Fig 2
.
- Using Reaction Sleeve Remover (7542), remove reaction sleeve by inserting flanges on reaction sleeve remover under reaction sleeve and lifting upward. See Fig 4
.
- Using Piston Remover (7543), remove No. 1 first-reverse brake piston by inserting flanges on piston remover under first-reverse brake piston and lifting upward. See Fig 5
