Preliminary Inspection

  1. Ensure shift cable and throttle cable are properly adjusted and no binding exists. If adjustment is required, see appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING.
  2. Check engine throttle operation. Fully depress accelerator and ensure throttle plate fully opens. Adjust cable or linkage if throttle plate does not fully open.
  3. Ensure transmission fluid level is correct with transmission at normal operating temperature. If fluid is required, use Mopar Dexron-III/Mercon (4773590) ATF or equivalent.
  4. Ensure engine will start with shift lever in Park or Neutral only. If engine starts in gear, adjust neutral safety switch. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
