Relay Test

  1. Remove suspect relay from relay center. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between relay terminals No. 87A and No. 30. See Fig 1 . If no continuity exists, replace faulty relay. If continuity exists, check for continuity between terminals No. 87 and No. 30. If continuity exists, replace faulty relay. If no continuity exists, go to next step.
  2. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between relay terminals No. 85 and No. 86. If resistance does not measure between 70-80 ohms, replace faulty relay. If resistance does measure between 70-80 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Connect battery positive terminal to relay terminal No. 86. Connect battery negative terminal to relay terminal No. 85. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between relay terminals No. 87A and No. 30. If continuity exists, replace faulty relay. If no continuity exists, check for continuity between relay terminals No. 87 and No. 30. If no continuity exists, replace faulty relay. If continuity exists, see appropriate relay circuit test.
