One Gauge Not Operating Properly

  1. Turn ignition off. Use scan tool to activate instrument cluster self-test, or push and hold down trip odometer reset button. Turn ignition on. DO NOT start engine. Release trip odometer reset button. Compare operation of suspect gauge(s) with actuator test chart. See Fig 1 . Instrument cluster will exit self-diagnostics mode at completion of test, or if ignition switch is turned off. If all gauges and indicator lights function correctly, go to next step. If instrument cluster gauge(s) and/or indicator light(s) do not respond properly during self-test, replace instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If any engine performance related codes are displayed, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no engine performance related codes are displayed, system is currently functioning correctly. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
