Horizontal Sensor Out Of Range High

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver's power seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between driver's power seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector terminal "C" (Brown/Red wire) and ground. If voltage is greater than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 4.5 volts, go to step  7.
  2. Ensure all seat sensors are connected. Using scan tool, select BODY, MEMORY SEAT then SENSORS. Monitor horizontal position sensor while moving seat forward and backward. When seat is in operation, if voltage is less than 7 volts at all times, go to next step. When seat is in operation, if voltage is greater than 7 volts at any time, replace seat track assembly. See appropriate POWER SEATS article. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver's power seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between driver's power seat horizontal position sensor connector terminal "A" (Brown/White wire) and ground. If voltage is less than 5.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 5.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Disconnect Memory Seat Module (MSM) connector C1. See Figure. MSM is located under driver's seat. Using DVOM, measure voltage between MSM connector C1 terminal No. 8 (Violet/Red wire) and ground. If voltage is not indicated, go to next step. If any voltage is indicated, repair short to voltage in Violet/Red wire between MSM and driver's power seat horizontal position sensor. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Turn ignition off. Reconnect MSM connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, MEMORY SEAT then SENSORS. Read HORIZONTAL POSITION SENSOR voltage. If voltage is greater than 0.2 volt, go to next step. If voltage is less than 0.2 volt, replace seat track assembly. See appropriate POWER SEATS article. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Replace MSM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT MODULE, HEATED SEAT MODULE, MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Disconnect driver's power seat horizontal position sensor 3-pin connector. Disconnect Memory Seat Module (MSM) connector C1. See Figure. Memory seat module is located under driver's seat. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Brown/Red wire between driver's power seat horizontal position sensor connector terminal "C" and MSM connector C1 terminal No. 10. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Red wire. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  8. Replace MSM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT MODULE, HEATED SEAT MODULE, MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
