Incorrect Ambient Temperature Reading

NOTE: After repairing any ambient temperature sensor related problem, vehicle must be driven greater than 3 miles at a continuous speed greater than 25 MPH to update displayed temperature.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor. Sensor is located on right side of front grille, next to headlight. Remove ambient temperature sensor. Using DVOM, measure resistance across ambient temperature sensor terminals. Compare readings to specifications. See AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If readings are within specification, go to next step. If readings are not within specification, replace ambient temperature sensor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition off and close all doors. Ensure all lights are off. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step  5.
  3. Turn ignition off and reconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C2. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance between BCM connector C2 terminals No. 9 (Dark Green/Red wire) and No. 20 (Dark Blue/Orange wire). See Figure. Compare readings to specifications. See AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If readings are not within specification, go to next step. If readings are within specification, test is complete. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Red wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 500 k/ohms, repair high resistance or short to ground in Dark Green/Red wire between BCM and ambient temperature sensor. If resistance is greater than 500 k/ohms, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C2. See Figure. Connect a jumper wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and ground. Connect test light between BCM connector C2 terminal No. 20 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and battery voltage. See Figure. If test light illuminates, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Dark Blue/Orange wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
