Transmission Verification Test
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors.
- Using scan tool, erase any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Display transmission temperature on scan tool. Start engine and run until transmission fluid temperature is above 110°F (43°C).
- Check transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary. If Transmission Control Module (TCM) has been replaced or transmission has been repaired or replaced, perform quick learn procedure with scan tool.
- Road test vehicle. Using scan tool, monitor engine RPM. Ensure transmission makes 15-20 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts. Ensure shifts are performed from a standing start to 45 MPH with a constant throttle opening of approximately 23 degrees.
- At a speed below 25 MPH, make 5-8 wide open throttle kickdowns to first gear. Allow at least 5 seconds between each throttle kickdown.
- Check for DTCs set during road test. If any DTC set during road test, go to appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If no DTCs set during road test, repair is complete.
