Power Mirror System

NOTE: For diagnosing heated power mirrors, see REAR WINDOW & MIRROR DEFOGGERS - CHEROKEE article.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove and inspect fuse No. 18 (10-amp) in junction block. Junction block is located behind right kick panel. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Yellow/Dark Green wire between junction block and Driver's Door Module (DDM). Replace fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check voltage at fuse No. 18. If no battery voltage exists, repair open in Black/White wire between ignition switch and junction block. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
  3. If problem being diagnosed is inoperative illumination of power mirror switch buttons on DDM, go to next step. If problem being diagnosed is inoperative power mirror, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove and inspect power window circuit breaker No. 28 (25-amp) in junction block. If circuit breaker is not okay, replace power window circuit breaker. If circuit breaker is okay, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove driver's door trim panel. See FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect DDM harness connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check voltage at terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Dark Green wire) at DDM harness connector C2. See Figure . If no battery voltage exists, repair open in Yellow/Dark Green wire between DDM and junction block. If battery voltage exists, replace DDM. See DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. On models with power windows, go to next step. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove power mirror switch. See STAND-ALONE POWER MIRROR SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check voltage at terminal No. 9 (Tan wire) at power mirror switch harness connector. If no battery voltage exists, repair open in Tan wire power mirror switch and junction block. If battery voltage exists, go to step  8 .
  7. On models with power windows, remove door trim panel See FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect DDM harness connector. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check voltage at terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Dark Green wire) at DDM harness connector C2. If no battery voltage exists, repair open in Yellow/Dark Green wire between DDM and junction block. If battery voltage exists, go to next step.
  8. On all models, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at power window switch harness connector (stand-alone models) or terminal No. 5 (Black wire) at DDM harness connector C2 (power window-equipped models). If no continuity exists, repair short to ground in Black wire between DDM and ground point. Ground point is located in left quarter panel, near tail light. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  9. Test stand-alone power mirror switch or DDM power mirror switch. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace power mirror switch or DDM as necessary. If power mirror switch is okay, go to next step.
  10. Test power mirror motor. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR  test under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace mirror as necessary.
