Speedometer Not Operating Properly

  1. Turn ignition off. Press and hold TRIP/RESET button on instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) self-test will start. All gauges, including speedometer, should sweep from zero to full scale, and back to zero. If all gauges pass self-test, go to next step. If speedometer fails self-test, replace speedometer. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Using scan tool, verify pinion factor is properly programmed. If pinion factor is properly programmed, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GRAND CHEROKEE article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If pinion factor is not properly programmed, program the correct pinion factor, the verify that speedometer is working.
