Incorrect Ambient Temperature Reading
NOTE:
After repairing any ambient temperature sensor related problem, vehicle must be driven greater than 3 miles at a continuous speed greater than 25 MPH to update displayed temperature.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor. Sensor is located on right side of front grille, next to headlight. Remove ambient temperature sensor. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ambient temperature sensor terminals. Compare readings to specifications. See AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If readings are as specified, go to next step. If readings are not as specified, replace ambient temperature sensor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Close all doors and ensure all interior and exterior lights are off. Wait 1 minute. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ambient temperature sensor terminal No. 1 (Dark Brown/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 30 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 30 ohms, go to step 7 .
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) C2 connector. See Figure . Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ambient temperature sensor terminal No. 1 (Dark Brown/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Brown/Orange wire between ambient temperature sensor and BCM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between BCM C2 connector terminal No. 9 (Dark Green/Red wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 50 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Red wire between BCM and ambient temperature sensor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If resistance is greater than 50 k/ohms, go to next step.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Red wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 50 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Red wire between BCM and ambient temperature sensor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If resistance is greater than 50 k/ohms, go to next step.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance in Dark Brown/Orange wire between ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 and BCM C2 connector terminal No. 20. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Brown/Orange wire between ambient temperature sensor and BCM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
