Front Wiper On Relay Open
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan, 2002 Dodge Caravan, 2002 Chrysler Voyager, and 2002 Chrysler Town & Country. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Remove wiper on/off relay from Intelligent Power Module (IPM). See Figure. Using a test light connected to ground, probe wiper on/off relay cavity terminals No. 85 and 87 in IPM. If test light illuminates brightly at both terminals, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly at one or both terminals, repair open circuit between wiper on/off relay and fuse No. 4 (30-amp). See WIPER/WASHER in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Install a known-good wiper on/off relay. Turn ignition on. Turn wipers on. If wipers do not operate properly, go to next step. If wipers operate properly, replace wiper on/off relay.
- Turn ignition off. Remove wiper on/off relay from IPM. Locate and disconnect Front Control Module (FCM). See FRONT CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect a jumper wire between ground and wiper on/off relay cavity terminal No. 86 in IPM. Using DVOM, measure resistance between FCM connector terminal No. 14. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace FCM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit between wiper on/off relay and FCM. See WIPER/WASHER in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
