Module, Anti-Lock Brake System: Installation: Installation

CAUTION:

When installing ABM to HCU, be sure to completely separate the two components (approximately 38 mm (1.5 in.) before connecting ABM to HCU. Otherwise, damage to the pressure sensor or Pump Motor connection may result requiring HCU replacement. Do not to touch the sensor terminals on the HCU side or the contact pads on the ABM side as this may result in contamination and issues in the future.

NOTE:

If the Anti-Lock Brake Module (ABM) is being replaced with a new ABM it must be reprogrammed with the use of a scan tool.

  1. Carefully install ABM to the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (1).

  2. Install the ABM mounting screws (1) and tighten to 2 N.m (16 in. lbs.).
  3. Install the wiring harness connector to the ABM and push down on the release to secure the connector.

  4. For 4.0L only  , reposition the evaporative emissions purge solenoid assembly (1) on the bracket (2).

  5. For 4.0L only  , position the upper radiator hose brackets over the studs and install the retainer nuts (2). Tighten the nuts to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.).
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Connect the scan tool and initialize the ABM by performing the ABS Verification Test. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
