Key Fob Programming

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Radio Frequency Hub (RFH) may be programmed to recognize up to a total of eight key fobs. When replacing or adding a key fob, the integrated key must be cut to match the door lock cylinder in the vehicle for which it will be used. Once an additional or new key has been cut, the RFH must be programmed to recognize it as a valid key fob  . When programming a key fob it may be necessary to have the vehicle Personal Identification Number (PIN). Follow the instructions on the diagnostic scan tool screen.

This procedure will require you to log into DealerCONNECT and enter a PIN when requested. The PIN is temporary and will be active for 12 hours. After 12 hours, a new PIN will need to be obtained from DealerCONNECT.

NOTE:

All key fobs that are to be used in this vehicle must remain on the front seat near the center console but behind the shifter.

NOTE:

Do not put a Laptop or any wireless device (cell phone, audio device, and others) on top of or near the center console. The Low Frequency (LF) antenna is below the console.

NOTE:

Before programming any key fob, the key fob battery should be tested using the yellow Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) test tool. The key fob should be tested on all buttons. The key fob has to be live before any programming starts.

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Using the diagnostic scan tool, select the RFH.
  3. Go to "View", select "Data" tab. Verify "Number of Key/Fob programmed" to make sure programmed key fobs do not exceed eight.
  4. Turn the ignition to the OFF/LOCK position. The ignition must be left OFF throughout this procedure on vehicles equipped with the RFH.
  5. With the scan tool select; "Misc. Functions" and then select the "Program Ignition key fob" routine.
    NOTE:

Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) equipped vehicles - When programming a key fob, hold it near or on the center console top. When you are instructed to "Press the Unlock button" it is important that you do not hold the button. Press it One time quickly.

    NOTE:

Ignition Module (IGNM) equipped vehicles - When programming a key fob, place the unprogrammed key fob into the IGNM and leave the IGNM in the LOCK position.

  6. Have the Sentry Key PIN available as this will be required to be entered into the diagnostic scan tool.
  7. Press "Continue" and follow the instructions on the screen.
  8. When the programming is completed, the diagnostic scan tool screen will display "Programming of Ignition key fob successful, continue to program another or close". Select "Close" or "Continue" to program another key fob.
  9. Verify successful programming by removing the key fob from the IGNM and pressing the various buttons to verify operation. Vehicle should then unlock. Using the diagnostic scan tool, go to the RFH "View", select "Data" tab to verify "Number of key/key fobs programmed" equals the new Programmed key fob count.
