DECKLID/Hatch/Liftgate/Tailgate/Swing Gate: Liftgate: Adjustments: In/Out
NOTE:
A suitable body sealant should be used between the hinge and the body surface when removing or moving the hinges. Sealant should be applied within 30 minutes of final tightening of the hinge fasteners.
- Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755, Trim Stick) or equivalent, remove the upper rear headliner trim (2).
- Remove the liftgate hinge (2). Refer to HINGE, REMOVAL .
- With the use of a die grinder equipped with a rotary file, enlarge the header panel (4) hinge stud hole in the for/aft direction necessary by 3 mm (0.12 in).
- Apply an epoxy anti-corrosion primer to any bare metal exposed.
- Allow the primer to dry in accordance with the manufacturer recommendations.
- Install the liftgate hinge with the hinge stud positioned to the required direction
Refer to HINGE, INSTALLATION .
- If necessary, repeat on the opposite side hinge.
- For the lower lift gate adjustments, remove lifgate scuff trim, Refer to PLATE, SCUFF, LIFTGATE, INSTALLATION .
- Loosen the striker screws (2) and adjust to specifications Refer to GAP AND FLUSH, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten the striker screws to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
- Position the upper rear headliner trim and seat fully.
- Position liftgate scuff plate trim and seat fully.
Exposed Metal Treatment
- Apply an epoxy or anti-corrosion primer to any bare metal exposed during hinge service procedures.
- Allow the primer to dry in accordance with the manufacturer recommendations.
- Apply touch-up paint over the primed area.
- Allow the touch-up paint to dry in accordance to the manufacturer recommendations.
