Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
      NOTE:

      It may be necessary to allow the engine to idle for a few minutes before fault will set if there is a mechanical or electrical issue causing the fault.

    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.

      Is the DTC active or pending?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK FOR A MECHANICAL DRAW OR POOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ISSUE 
    NOTE:

    Anything that can cause excessive current draw can cause the FPCM 2 to eventually overheat and shut down.

    1. Check the wiring and connectors at the FPCM 2 and PCM for signs of spread terminal or corrosion that can cause an excessive electrical load on the FPCM 2.
    2. Check for a high mechanical draw due to a faulty Fuel Pump Assembly or severely restricted filter.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Perform the appropriate repair and retest system for a fault before considering replacing the Fuel Pump Control Module 2.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Replace the Fuel Pump Control Module in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
