  1. Release the retention tabs from the Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) (1).

  2. Remove the CSC bolts (2).

  3. Disconnect the clutch tube union at the case. Release the retention clip (1) then separate the clutch tube union (2).

  4. Disconnect the hydraulic fitting (2) from the plastic retainer (1).
  5. Remove the CSC.

  6. Remove the main shaft oil seal plate (1).

  7. Remove the gear selector assembly bolts (1).
  8. Use a plastic hammer or the equivalent to loosen the assembly and remove from the case.

  9. Remove the reverse idler gear assembly retaining bolt.
  10. Remove the axle seals. Refer to SEAL, AXLE DRIVE SHAFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  11. Remove the long case bolts (1) and the short case bolts (2).

  12. Separate the case halves by carefully prying on the gear side half (1) and the clutch housing side half (2).

  13. Remove the reverse idler gear assembly (1).
  14. Using a hydraulic press, remove the pin from the reverse gear mounting bracket.
  15. Separate the reverse idler gear and the needle bearing.

  16. Remove the shifter fork pivot pin (1).
  17. Remove the 3-4-reverse gear shifter fork assembly (2).

  18. Remove the shifter fork pivot pin (1).
  19. Remove the 1-2-5-6 gear shifter fork assembly (2).

  20. Remove the output and main shafts (1) as a group.

  21. Remove the bearing race plate bolts.
    NOTE:

    Use a screw drive or equivalent as an aid in releasing the plate from the locating bushings.

  23. Remove the differential assembly (1).

  25. Remove the clutch housing side differential bearing race using the slide hammer (special tool #C-637, Slide Hammer, Universal) and bearing cup remover (special tool #9664, Remover, Bearing Cup).

  26. Remove shaft bearing cup (2) using a press and the bearing cup installer (special tool #10302, Installer, Bearing Cup).
  27. Remove the input shaft bearing cup (2) using (special tool #C-637, Slide Hammer, Universal) (special tool #9664, Remover, Bearing Cup).
  28. Remove the output shaft bearing cup from the race mounting plate using a press and tools (special tool #D-111, Installer, Bearing Cup) (3), 10302.

    NOTE:

    Do not discard the shim as it will be utilized as the starting point for the bearing preload adjustment process.

  29. Remove the case side differential bearing race cups and shims (1) using (special tool #C-637, Slide Hammer, Universal) (special tool #9664, Remover, Bearing Cup) (3).

    NOTE:

    Document the location of each shim as they will be utilized as the starting point for the bearing preload adjustment process.

  30. Remove the case side gear shaft bearing race cups and shims (2) using a Slide Hammer (special tool #C-637, Slide Hammer, Universal) and Bearing Cup Remover (special tool #9664, Remover, Bearing Cup) (1).

  31. Remove the lubricating duct by pulling upward.

    NOTE:

    The oil ducts are staked to the case and may require some grinding before removal.

  32. Remove the shaft oil ducts (1) from the case using a screwdriver or the equivalent.
