Steering System: Gear: Removal
CAUTION:
The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in SCCM damage.
- Remove the engine cradle (crossmember). Refer to CROSSMEMBER, CRADLE, ENGINE AND SUSPENSION, REMOVAL
.
- Remove the two steering gear bolts (2).
- Remove the one steering gear bolt (4).
- Remove both outer tie rod end nuts (5) and disengage both outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
- Rotate and shift the steering gear (3) to the right enough to lift the LH side of the steering gear (3) above the engine cradle, then remove the steering gear (3) by moving to the right above the engine cradle.
