Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Start the engine and allow it to idle.NOTE:
It may be necessary to allow the engine to idle for a few minutes before fault will set if there is a mechanical or electrical issue causing the fault.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- Start the engine and allow it to idle.
- CHECK FOR A MECHANICAL DRAW OR POOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ISSUE NOTE:
Anything that can cause excessive current draw can cause the FPCM to eventually overheat and shut down.
- Check the wiring and connectors at the FPCM and Fuel Pump Assembly for signs of spread terminal or corrosion that can cause an excessive electrical load on the FPCM.
- Check for a high mechanical draw due to a faulty Fuel Pump Assembly or severely restricted filter.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair and retest system for a fault before considering replacing the Fuel Pump Control Module.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Fuel Pump Control Module in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
