Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
      NOTE:

      It may be necessary to allow the engine to idle for a few minutes before fault will set if there is a mechanical or electrical issue causing the fault.

    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.

      Is the DTC active or pending?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK FOR A MECHANICAL DRAW OR POOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ISSUE 
    NOTE:

    Anything that can cause excessive current draw can cause the FPCM to eventually overheat and shut down.

    1. Check the wiring and connectors at the FPCM and Fuel Pump Assembly for signs of spread terminal or corrosion that can cause an excessive electrical load on the FPCM.
    2. Check for a high mechanical draw due to a faulty Fuel Pump Assembly or severely restricted filter.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Perform the appropriate repair and retest system for a fault before considering replacing the Fuel Pump Control Module.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Replace the Fuel Pump Control Module in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
