Switch, Lock: Operation
The main function of the this switch assembly is to control the opening or closing of the power windows and power locks based on the manual input given. The Driver Door Switch assemblies are classified as high current, low current or "hybrid." High current Door Switch assemblies directly control windows and mirrors through high current switched contacts within the switch assembly. Low current Door Switch assemblies control windows and mirrors via messages sent over the Local Interface Network (LIN) bus to a module which directly controls the windows and mirrors. Hybrid Door Switch assemblies control front windows and mirrors via LIN messages, while controlling rear windows through high current switched contacts. In all cases, door locks are controlled by a signal to the module which directly controls the door lock solenoids.
The front door power switch module provides resistor multiplexed outputs to the Body Control Module (BCM) indicating the power lock switch selection, and the BCM operates the lock motors accordingly. On vehicles with the power outside rear view mirror option, the driver side front door power switch module also provides hardwired analog outputs directly from the power mirror selector and control switches to the power mirrors.
On vehicles with a base power window system option, the driver side front door power switch module provides high current hardwired analog outputs directly to the driver side front power window motor, or to the front and rear passenger door power window motors through the power window switch for that door. In the base power window system, an integrated circuit within each front door power switch module monitors inputs from the auto-down detent of the front door power window switches to invoke that feature.
On vehicles with a premium power window system option, the driver and passenger side front door power switch modules provide low current hardwired outputs to the driver or passenger side front window motors, while the rear passenger power window motors still rely upon high current hardwired outputs from the switches. In the premium power window system, the BCM monitors the front door power window switches to invoke the auto-down and auto-up features through the smart power window motors.
The hardwired inputs and outputs of the driver and passenger side front door power switch modules may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. However, conventional diagnostic methods will not prove conclusive in the diagnosis of the electronic controls of the power switch modules or in the diagnosis of the other modules and electronic controls that provide some features of the power lock, power mirror or power window systems. The most reliable, efficient, and accurate means to diagnose the driver side power switch module or the electronic controls and communication related to power lock, power mirror or power window system operation requires the use of a diagnostic scan tool. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
