Chain And Sprockets, Timing: Inspection
Inspect the timing chain for excessive wear prior to removal.
- Rotate the crankshaft clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine while watching the timing chain tensioner plunger. When the plunger reaches its maximum extension, stop rotating the crankshaft.
- Measure the distance from the tensioner body to the edge of the chain guide as shown in illustration (1).
- If the distance (1) is greater than 20.5 mm (0.81 in.) inspect the chain guides for excessive wear.
- If the chain guides are not excessively worn, replace the timing chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
