The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is a hall effect type sensor and is used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in conjunction with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and Top Dead Center (TDC) signal to recognize the position of the cylinders and determine the injection and ignition point. The CMP sensor is located on the camshaft bearing housing and faces the camshaft.
