Key Fob Programming
The Radio Frequency Hub (RFH) may be programmed to recognize up to a total of eight Key Fobs. When replacing or adding a Key Fob, the integrated key must be cut to match the door lock cylinder in the vehicle for which it will be used. Once an additional or new key has been cut, the RFH must be programmed to recognize it is a valid Key Fob . When programming a Key Fob, it will be necessary to have a vehicle Sentry Key PIN. Follow the instructions on the scan tool screen.
This procedure will require you to log into DealerCONNECT and enter a PIN when requested. The PIN is temporary and will be active for 12 hours. After 12 hours, a new PIN will need to be obtained from DealerCONNECT.
Only ONE Key Fob can be programmed at a time.
- Premium System (Push-Button Start) - All other Key Fobs must remain outside of the vehicle, including already programmed Key Fobs. (Interference from other Key Fobs may interrupt programming and cause programming to be unsuccessful.)
- Baseline System (Rotary - Key Insertion) - All other Key Fobs, including already programmed Key Fobs, must remain a minimum of 30cm (12 inches) from the Key Fob inserted into the Ignition Module while programming. (Interference from other nearby Key Fobs may interrupt programming.)
Do not put a Laptop or other wireless device (cell phone, cell phone, audio device, and others) on top of or near the center console (between the seats to the dash). The Low Frequency (LF) antenna is below the center console and these devices may interrupt programming. Make sure that the key fob that is being programmed is inside the vehicle away from nearby consumer electronics. Disconnect aftermarket cell phone chargers before attempting to program the key fob.
Before programming any Key Fob (new or used), the Key Fob battery should be tested using the RFI tool
The Key Fob should be tested by pressing ALL buttons, the RFI tool should respond to every button press by lighting up and beeping.
- Turn the Ignition on.
- With the scan tool select RFH
- Go to "View", select "Data" tab. Select "Number of Key/Fob programmed" to ensure programmed Key Fobs are fewer than eight (8).
- Turn the ignition off. The ignition must be left off throughout this procedure.
- With the scan tool select, "Misc. Functions", and then "Program Ignition FOBIKs".
Premium System (Push-Button Start) - When programming a Key Fob hold it near or on the center console between the seats. When you instructed to "Press the Unlock Button" (if Unlock is not present, press the Panic button), it is important that the button is not held down. Press the button one time only. DO NOT PRESS BUTTONS WHILE PROGRAMMING IS IN PROGRESS.
Baseline System (Rotary - Key Insertion) - When programming a Key Fob, place the new, un-programmed Key Fob into the ignition. Leave the Key Fob in the LOCK position. DO NOT PRESS BUTTONS WHILE PROGRAMMING IS IN PROGRESS.
- Have Sentry Key PIN available as this will be required to be entered into the scan tool.
- Press "Continue" and follow the instructions on the screen. Programming can take as long as 20 seconds. ONCE PROGRAMMING HAS STARTED DO NOT PRESS BUTTONS ON Key Fob.
- When the programming is completed the screen will display "Programming of Ignition FOBIK successful, continue to program another or close", or "Unable to Program FOBIK".
- If the programming is successful, select "Continue" to program another Key Fob or "Close" if no more Key Fobs are to be programmed.
- If the programming is unsuccessful, another programming attempt can be performed.
A second attempt at programming will automatically return a programming failure, as this attempt will try to reset the Key Fob to factory defaults. A third programming attempt must be performed before a determination that the Key Fob cannot be programmed can be made.
- Final programming step requires pressing any button on the Key Fob to synchronize the rolling count. A single button press is required, and there should be no response from the vehicle.
- Verify successful programming. On Baseline vehicles (Rotary - Key Insertion) remove the Key Fovb from the ignition. On all vehicles press the various buttons to verify operation. Verify the vehicle will start (NOTE: On Premium Vehicles (Push-Button Start), ensure no other programmed FOBIKs are inside vehicle when attempting to start).
- Using the scan tool, select RFH, select "View", select "Data" tab to verify "Number of Key/Fob Programmed" equals the new programmed Key Fob count.
