Removal And Installation: Removal
- Remove the engine from the vehicle and mount the engine in the maintenance stand. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the rear crankshaft oil seal. Refer to SEAL, CRANKSHAFT OIL, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to OIL, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Using a suitable oil filter wrench, remove the oil filter (1).
- Remove the three fasteners (5) and the oil cooler heat shield (4).NOTE:

- Remove the oil cooler connector fastener (2) and reposition the oil cooler.
- Remove and DISCARD
the oil cooler seal (1).
- Disconnect the B+ cable (2) and the field generator harness connector (3) from the generator.
- Remove the fasteners (1, 4) and the generator from the engine.
- Remove the fastener (2) and the dipstick tube (1).
- Remove and DISCARD
the dipstick tube O-ring seal (1).
- Remove the three fasteners (2) and the generator mounting bracket (1) from the engine.NOTE:
Leave the accessory belt tensioner (3) attached to the generator mounting bracket (1).
- Remove the fasteners (2, 1) and the lower intake manifold support bracket (3).
- Remove the three fasteners (2) and the intermediate shaft bearing housing (1) from the engine, if equipped.
- Remove the cylinder head cover, oil pan and engine timing cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the balance shaft/oil pump assembly. Refer to PUMP, ENGINE OIL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the ladder frame fasteners.
- Separate the ladder frame from the engine block using the pry point cast in the rear of the engine block (1).
- Separate and remove the ladder frame from the engine block using another pry point (1) cast in the right side of the engine block.
