Front Passenger Display Module

DESCRIPTION

GC0203156Courtesy of CHRYSLER GROUP, LLC

The Front Passenger Display Module (FPDM) (2) allows for touchscreen input commands to the radio via a pair of Private Ethernet circuits in the 8-terminal wire harness. The FPDM is available in one size, 260 mm (10.25 inch). The FPDM is powered on using the ON/OFF button (1) in the switch bank pod. The FPDM has a privacy filter so that the driver is not distracted while driving. The back of the FPDM houses the wire harness connections necessary for Controller Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) communication, Private Ethernet, power and ground circuits in one 8-terminal connector and UCI-USB circuits in the second connector which is routed to the Media Hub USB circuits.

The FPDM has a dedicated High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) input hub (3), located in the instrument panel cubby bin between the Media Hub and 12-volt power outlet, if equipped, to support streaming sticks, an external DVD player, HDMI-supported gaming systems, Apple devices via HDMI cable and certain Android devices via HDMI cable.

The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, details of wire harness routing and retention, connector pin-out information and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds. For proper wire repair, and connector repair procedures. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING PROCEDURES and CONNECTOR TERMINAL REMOVAL and CONNECTOR TERMINAL INSTALLATION . Refer to the appropriate wiring information.

The FPDM cannot be repaired. If the FPDM is damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced. Refer to MODULE, DISPLAY SCREEN (DSM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

OPERATION

When the FPDM is powered on using the ON/OFF button in the switch bank pod, the switch bank pod sends an FPDM ON or OFF request to the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM then sends an FPDM screen ON message to the radio via the CAN-IHS data bus. The radio then sends a CAN message to the FPDM to turn ON. When the BCM receives the ON/OFF request, it sends an LED "activate" signal back to the to the FPDM ON/OFF switch LED when the FPDM is turned ON and a "deactivate" signal when the FPDM is turned OFF.

The FPDM receives fused B+ from the interior Power Distribution Center (PDC) and continuous ground is supplied by a ground eyelet connected to a ground stud on the left side of the floor console. In addition, the FPDM status is broadcast over the CAN-IHS data bus to be used by the radio when the radio sends a CAN message for the status of the FPDM. The FPDM is also connected to the Security Gateway Module (SGW) on the CAN-IHS data bus.

The radio receives touchscreen signals via the Private Ethernet circuits in the 8-terminal wire harness directly between the radio and FPDM. The FPDM communicates via ethernet protocol with the radio.

The FPDM receives vehicle configuration and network configuration information from the vehicle configuration management system via the CAN-IHS data bus. Any diagnostic or loss of communication states are also sent via the CAN-IHS data bus.

The 260 mm (10.25 inch) FPDM includes the display screen functions in one unit that is integral to the bezel.
