Right Hand Drive: Notes
REMOVAL
- Position front wheels straight ahead. CAUTION:
Steering column module is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in steering column module damage.
NOTE:Some vehicles may not be equipped with an internal locking shaft that allows the ignition key cylinder to be locked with the key. Alternative methods of locking the steering wheel for service will have to be used.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to 2.0L, BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - SINGLE 12V BATTERY SYSTEM or 2.0L, BATTERY DISCONNECT - DUAL 12 VOLT BATTERY SYSTEM or 2.0L, 12-VOLT BATTERY DISCONNECT/CONNECT - PHEV or 3.0L, BATTERY DISCONNECT - DUAL 12 VOLT BATTERY SYSTEM or 3.6L, BATTERY DISCONNECT - DUAL 12 VOLT BATTERY SYSTEM or 3.6L, HYBRID, BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - SINGLE 12V BATTERY SYSTEM or 6.4L, BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - SINGLE 12V BATTERY SYSTEM .
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to WHEEL, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the gap hider. Refer to GAP HIDER, STEERING COLUMN SHROUD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the upper end of the steering intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft. Refer to SHAFT, INTERMEDIATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
1 - Wire Harness Routing Clip - Remove the wiring harness routing clip from the steering column.
1 - Steering Column Nuts - Remove the four steering column nuts.
1 - Steering Column Lock Module Wire Harness Connector - Lower the steering column slightly and disconnect the steering column lock module wire harness connector.
- Carefully guide the steering column shaft through the bulkhead and remove the steering column.
1 - Bulkhead Bearing Bolts - If necessary, remove the two bulkhead bearing bolts, and remove the bulkhead bearing.
INSTALLATION
During installation, torque the fasteners to the specifications in the torque table(s) below.
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
