Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR OTHER TCM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
Are any other TCM DTCs set?
Yes
- Repair other TCM DTCs. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 2
- With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- CHECK FOR POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) DTCS
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Are any PCM DTCs set?
Yes
- Repair PCM DTCs. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (GPEC 2A), or refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX (GPEC 5) .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
- CHECK IF TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) SOFTWARE UPDATE IS AVAILABLE NOTE:
Read Service Bulletins to determine if the software update is applicable to the customer complaint.
- With the scan tool, check if a TCM software update is available that may be related to the customer complaint.
Is an update available?
Yes
- Perform the TCM PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE. Refer to MODULE PROGRAMMING .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- With the scan tool, check if a TCM software update is available that may be related to the customer complaint.
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the TCM connector and all related in-line connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the TCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE PROGRAMMING , and refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
