Lower Control Arm: Notes
REMOVAL
The air suspension system can be disabled and enabled by using the Display Screen Module (DSM) in the vehicle under Tire Jack Mode, which is the preferred method. If the disable level control routine in the scan tool is used, it will only disable the level control (automatic and manual) for that ignition cycle. The air suspension system can also be enabled by driving the vehicle above 19 km/h (12 mph). The air suspension should be disabled prior to lifting the vehicle or performing any work.
- If equipped with air suspension, disable the air suspension system. Refer to DISABLING AND ENABLING AIR SUSPENSION .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to TIRES AND WHEELS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Use a suitable jack to support the lower control arm.
- Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm. Refer to LINK, STABILIZER BAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. Refer to KNUCKLE, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
1-2 - Wire Harness Routing Clips - Remove the wire harness routing clips.
1-3 - Lower Control Arm Nuts 2 - Shock Absorber Lower Nut - Remove the shock absorber lower nut and bolt.
- Remove the two lower control arm nuts, then remove the eccentrics and the lower control arm bolts.
- Remove the lower control arm.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
In any instance where a bolt is through a rubber bushing, the bolt must be torqued with the vehicle at normal ride height.
- If equipped with air suspension, enable the air suspension system.
- Perform the wheel alignment standard procedure. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
