Shift Cable: Notes
REMOVAL
- Place the shifter in Park (P) position.
- Set the parking brake.
- Remove the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the shifter cable end from the shifter ball stud.
1 - Shifter Cable End 2 - Shifter Cable Housing To Shifter Attachment - Detach the shifter cable housing from the shifter.
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Detach the shifter cable end from the manual lever.
- Squeeze the shifter cable retention tabs and remove the shifter cable from the shifter cable bracket.
1 - Shifter Cable Retention Tabs 2 - Shifter Cable Bracket - Remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to REAR DRIVESHAFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the muffler. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the center tunnel heat shield fasteners and position the heat shield rearward to access the shifter cable grommet.
- Remove the nuts for the shifter cable grommet and plate assembly.
1 - Transmission Shifter to Floor Bolts 2 - Transmission Shifter Cable Grommet To Floor Nuts 3 - Transmission Shifter Cable Bracket To Transmission Bolts - Pull the shifter cable and plate assembly through the opening in the floor pan.
- Remove the shifter cable from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
During installation, torque the fasteners to the specifications in the torque table(s) below.
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- Route the shift cable in the same way as the original shift cable.
- Adjust the shift cable. Refer to SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT .
