Transmission Oil Level Check: Notes

WARNING:

There is a risk of accident from vehicle moving when the engine is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. There is a risk of injury from contusions and burns if you insert your hands into the engine when it is running. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. Wear properly fitted work clothes.

CAUTION:

A unique transmission fluid has been developed for this transmission. This fluid is NOT compatible with ATF+4 or any other current FCA US LLC transmission fluid. For specifics about this unique fluid see FLUIDS, LUBRICANTS AND GENUINE PARTS.

  1. Connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
  2. Start the engine with the vehicle in Park.
    NOTE: Transmission oil temperature of 55°C (131°F) is the optimal temperature for checking the oil level.
  3. Use the scan tool to monitor the transmission oil temperature, allow the transmission oil temperature to achieve 50 - 60°C (122 - 140°F).
  4. Shift the transmission slowly from Park to Drive and back to Park two times, pausing in each position for at least 2 seconds.
  5. Remove the transmission oil level check plug.
    NOTE: Make sure the transmission oil dipstick is completely inserted into the transmission oil pan to obtain an accurate transmission oil level reading.

  6. Insert the (special tool #2083000210, Dipstick, Transmission 8F30) fully into the opening.
  7. Carefully withdraw the dipstick and record the oil level reading. Compare the recorded reading to the chart. When the transmission oil temperature is 55° C (131° F), the proper transmission oil level is between 42.0 and 48.0 mm on the dipstick.

  8. If necessary, adjust the transmission oil level by adding or removing transmission oil until the proper level is achieved.
  9. Install the transmission oil level check plug.
  10. Install the transmission oil fill plug.
