Alternator Output

  1. Connect an ammeter (70-amp minimum) in-line between alternator terminal "B" connector and terminal "B" of wiring harness connector. See Fig 1. Turn headlights and all accessories on. Depress brake pedal. Operate engine at 2500-3000 RPM.
  2. Amperage output should be a minimum of 65-amps. If amperage is not as specified, ensure alternator belt is adjusted properly. See BELT TENSION  under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust belt as necessary. If belt adjustment is okay, replace alternator. If amperage is as specified, charging system is okay.
