Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Inspection

1. Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Engine should be at operating temperature.

2. Check voltage output at the signal return voltage terminal (LT GRN/WHT).

* NOTICE: Measure signal return voltage with Throttle Valve fully Closed.

Specification: Approximately 0.4 - 0.6 Volts

3. If signal voltage is not within specification, replace the TP Sensor.
4. Verify TP Sensor signal return voltage is within specification.

5. Slowly open Throttle Valve and verify voltage increases are in proportion to Throttle Valve opening angle.

Voltage at Wide Open Throttle: Approximately 3.5 - 4.3 Volts

6. If TP Sensor signal return voltage at wide OPEN throttle is not as specified, replace the TP Sensor.
