Pre-Disassembly Backlash Inspection
Install left and right axle shafts into differential. Support axle shafts on V-blocks. See Fig 1 . Measure backlash of both pinion gears. Backlash should be .002-.006" (.05-.15 mm). Rebuild or replace differential assembly if backlash is not as specified.
