Component Inspection

Check Spark Plugs 

  1. Remove all spark plugs.
  2. Visually/physically inspect the following items:
    • Check if the spark plug for the relevant cylinder is lighter in color than the other plugs
    • Oil or fuel fouled/damaged insulation/worn electrodes
    • Loose terminals and cracks
    • Check the plug gap: 1.0-1.1 mm (0.039-0.043 in.)

  3. Was a problem found in any of the above areas?

    YES

    1. Test with a new spark plug and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected, replace it.

      And go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

    NO

    1. Go to "Check Spark Plug Cables" procedure.

Check Spark Plug Cables 

  1. Remove all spark plugs.
  2. Visually/physically inspect the following items:
    • Damage, cracks and flashover
  3. Measure the resistance of the spark plug cables.
    1. Specification: Approx. 9.6~22.4 kΩ/m (3.28 ft) at 20°C (68°F)

  4. Is the displayed value within the specified value?

    YES

    1. Go to "Check Injector for Blockage or Fuel Leakage" procedure.

    NO

    1. Test with a new spark plug cable and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected, replace it.

    And go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

Check Injector for Blockage or Fuel Leakage 

  1. Check injector for blockage or fuel leakage.
    CAUTION: Be sure to reduce the fuel pressure before disconnecting the injector, otherwise fuel will spill out.
  2. Is there a problem?

    YES

    1. Test with a new injector and check for proper operation. If problem is corrected, replace it.

    And go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

    NO

    1. Go to "SYSTEM INSPECTION " procedure.
