GDS - AUDIO UPDATE MODULE (AUM)

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

SERVICE INFORMATION

This bulletin provides information relating to the introduction of the GDS Audio Update Module (AUM). The GDS AUM was developed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of updating 2010 and later model year Kia audio systems using a GDS and a Web application. This new tool eliminates the need for multiple USB flash drives for specific vehicle models and applications which, if misapplied, may result in an improper audio system software update and/or locked up head unit.

The new GDS AUM offers the following advantages: 

• Friendly, visual on-screen GDS user interface
• More efficient audio unit updates
• Update with correct files and minimal user intervention
• Minimize audio head unit lock up and/or damage

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. With the ignition key ON, turn the VCI and GDS ON. Access the GDS vehicle identification number (VIN) screen and configure the vehicle using the VIN AUTO DETECT  Function. Then, select Engine  and click OK  .
2. Click on Audio Update. 
3. Insert the Black USB connector from the AUM into the GDS and click OK  .
   NOTE: Do not connect the AUM to the vehicle's USB port at this time.
4. Select the following information from the drop down menus:
   • Applicable TSB 
   • Vehicle Production Date  - Enter the production date from the R/O or from the manufacturer's plate on the door jamb. If the plate only provides the month and year of production, complete the date by adding the first day of the month (e.g. 11/12 - enter 11/1/2012).
   • Body Type. 

   Then, click Next  .

5. Confirm the audio head unit in the vehicle matches the one in the image and click OK  .
6. Review all the information in the table and click Download Update to AUM  .
7. After AUM download is complete, click OK  . Then, insert the Gray USB connector from the AUM to the USB port on the vehicle. Complete the audio system update by following the on-screen instructions or by referring to the latest, applicable TSB.
   NOTE: If the "No file available!" or similar screen appears, either click OK or allow the screen to disappear, before proceeding with update.
8. Once the update has been downloaded to the audio unit, perform the AUM reconfiguration procedure and click Continue  .
