Repair Procedures: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Kia Forte5, 2015 Kia Forte Koup, and 2015 Kia Forte. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Set the front tires straight-ahead before removing the steering wheel.
    CAUTION: If the steering wheel and the front tires are not set straight ahead together, it affects the number of circulation of steering wheel and the cable inside the clock spring is possible to be damaged.
  2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
    NOTE: After disconnecting the battery negative cable, wait for at least thirty seconds.
  3. While turning the steering wheel to left and right, press the part A (3 places marked red dotted circle) under the steering wheel and then remove the airbag module.

    NOTE: Specific remove procedures about the steering wheel.
    1. Press the red arrow to the driver.

  4. Remove the wiring fixing clip (C) and disconnect the horn connector (A).

  5. Release the connector locking pin, then disconnect the driver airbag module connector (B).
    CAUTION: The removed airbag module should be stored in a clean, dry place with the pad cover facing up.
  6. Remove the steering wheel

    (Refer to "STEERING WHEEL ")

  7. Remove the steering column shroud.

  8. Disconnect the clock spring and horn connector, then remove the clock spring.
