DTC P064A-00: Fuel Pump Control Module: General Description

Variable fuel pump system controls fuel feed rate of low pressure fuel pump by pulse with modulate (PWM) control in accordance with RPM, road.

It has following positive aspects compared with mechanically regulated fuel pump: low current consumption as it optimizes fuel feed rate, higher fuel efficiency, low pump noise, longer lifetime of the fuel pump.

ECM (PCM) sets target fuel pressure and sends it to fuel pump control module (FPCM).

FPCM controls low pressure fuel pump by three phase duty control to adjust actual to target pressure based on fuel pressure sensor.
