Repair Procedures: Replacement
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/charging station.
- When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
G 2.0 MPI NU (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")
G 1.6 T-GDI GAMMA (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")
- Remove the cowl top cover.
(Refer to Body - "COWL TOP COVER ")
- Remove the bolts and the expansion valve (A) from the evaporator core.
Tightening torque:
8.8-13.7 N m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb ft)
NOTE:- Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.
- When installing, replace with a new O-ring.
- After loosening the mounting screws, remove the evaporator core from mat (A).
- Disconnect the heater hoses (A) from the heater unit.CAUTION:
- Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on electrical parts or painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
- After loosening the mounting nuts, remove the heater hose from mat (A).
- Loosen the cowl cross member mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
16.7-25.5 N m (1.7-2.6 kgf m, 12.3 - 18.8 lb ft)
- Remove the floor console assembly.
(Refer to Body - "FLOOR CONSOLE ASSEMBLY ")
- Remove the crash pad lower panel.
(Refer to Body - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")
- Remove both sides of the front pillar trim.
(Refer to Body - "FRONT PILLAR TRIM ")
- Remove the cowl side trim.
(Refer to Body - "COWL SIDE TRIM ")
- Remove the steering column shroud lower panel.
(Refer to Body - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")
- Remove the steering wheel.
(Refer to Steering System - "STEERING WHEEL ")
- Remove the multifunction switch.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ")
- Lower the steering column after loosening the mounting bolts.
(Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT ")
- Remove the shift lever assembly.
G 2.0 MPI NU (Refer to Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) System - "SHIFT LEVER ")
G 1.6 T-GDI GAMMA (Refer to Manual Transaxle System - "SHIFT LEVER ")
G 1.6 T-GDI GAMMA (Refer to Double Clutch Transmission Control System - "SHIFT LEVER ")
- Separate the floor carpet (A) to obtain space for removing the rear heating duct.
- Remove the side floor pad (A).
- Remove the rear heating duct (A).
- Disconnect the blower motor connector (A) and remove the wiring mounting clips.
- Disconnect the airbag control module (SRSCM) connector (A).
- Disconnect the junction box connectors (A).
- Disconnect the multi box connectors (A).

- Disconnect the connectors (A) and the mounting clips in the front pillar.

- Remove the drain hose (A).
- After loosening the bolts and nuts remove the main crash pad and cowl cross bar assembly (A) together.
Tightening torque
- Cowl crossbar mount: 16.7 - 25.5 N m (1.7 - 2.6 kgf m, 12.3 - 18.8 lb ft)
- Blower motor low mount: 3.9 - 5.9 N m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb ft)

- Disconnect the heater & blower unit connectors.
- Disconnect the integrated body control unit connector (A).
- Disconnect the auto defogging actuator connector (A), intake actuator connector (B) and remove the wiring mounting clips.
- Disconnect the passenger's side temperature control actuator (B), evaporator temperature sensor connector (C), power mosfet connector (A) and remove the wiring mounting clips.
- Disconnect the driver's temperature control actuator (A), mode control actuator (B) and remove the wiring mounting clips.
- Disconnect the integrated body control unit connector (A).
- Remove the heater & blower unit (A) from the crash pad after loosening the mounting nuts and bolts.
Tightening torque:
3.9 - 5.9 N m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb ft)
- Remove the integrated body control unit (A).
Tightening torque:
6.9 - 9.8 N m (0.7 - 1.0 kgf m, 5.1 - 7.2 lb ft)
- Separate the blower unit (A) from the heater unit after loosening the screws.

- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
