Overhaul (Throttle Plate Assembly)

CAUTION: When pressing in new throttle shaft bushings, ensure that bushings do not protrude into bore, as they will interfere with movement of throttle plate.
  1. Examine throttle shaft for excessive wear between bushings in plenum chamber and shaft. A small amount of clearance is permissible. If excessive wear is evident install new shaft and bushings as follows. Remove 2 split screws securing throttle plate and withdraw plate. See Fig 1 . Take care not to damage shaft. Remove shaft and air seal from plenum chamber. See Fig 2 .
  2. Using suitable drift, drive out bushings. Take care not to damage plenum chamber bores. Press in new bushings until they are flush with throttle shaft bore. See Fig 3 .
  3. Fit throttle shaft and plate and secure with 2 split screws. DO NOT fully tighten screws. Rotate throttle shaft 360 degrees once or twice to centralize plate in bore. Tighten split screws. Rotate shaft. Use screw driver to spread split screw ends. See Fig 4 . Grease new air seal with Admax L3 or Energrease LS3. Push seal down shaft, into counterbore until seal is 0.236" (6.0 mm) below face of plenum. See Fig 3 .
