SITUATION:

DETERIORATION OF FILTER MATERIAL AND RESULTING NOISE 

The customer may complain of the untidy appearance of the intake foam filter.

There may also be a complaint of noise from the plenum area due to the presence of leaves and other debris that have passed through the filter.

The problem is more likely to appear on vehicles frequently used at highway speeds.

RESOLUTION:

REPLACE THE FILTER MATERIAL 

Replacement of the filter material may be indicated. The filter material was not previously available separately, but it is now available as a spare part. Installation following the procedures in this TIB will renew the effectiveness and appearance of the filter.

Install Replacement Plenum Filter 

FAULT CODE: P 

NOTE: Warranty Claims for the renewal of complete plenum air intake panel assemblies for deteriorated foam will not be accepted.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply 

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 80.15.62 and remove the plenum air intake panel.
  2. Clear any debris from the plenum chamber area.
  3. Use a flat blade screwdriver to remove the nine metal clips that retain the foam to the underside of the plenum panel (Fig 1 ).
  4. Remove the foam and wire foam support (Fig 1 ).
  5. Position new foam (BTR9548) and refit wire support.
  6. Replace any clips (BTR9549) that may have been damaged during removal.
  7. Install metal clips.
  8. Refer to Workshop Manual 80.15.62 and refit panel to vehicle.
