Navigation System: General
The navigation system provides computer generated audible and visual route guidance information to enable the driver to reach a desired destination. The system allows the driver to choose the desired route using minor or major roads or motorways and the quickest or shortest route. Directions to hospitals, museums, monuments and hotels are also available. The computer uses map information stored on a digital versatile disc (DVD)-ROM to determine the best route for the journey and provide the driver with details of directions and approaching junctions.
The Range Rover navigation system is a MOST based system. The navigation system provide on-road and off-road navigation capabilities with a digital versatile disc (DVD) based map system. The navigation system has the following advantages over a conventional CD based system:
- High speed scrolling display and route searching
- Single digital versatile disc (DVD) can contain all map data, e.g. only one digital versatile disc (DVD) required for the USA
- Greater geographic coverage than a compact disc (CD) system
- Touch screen display
- Allows for multi-destination input
- Large points of interest library, e.g. tourist attractions, petrol stations, etc.
- 3 dimensional map display show terrain data, land contours and buildings
- Voice operation
- 800 X 480 high resolution screen
- Display time and distance to destination.
The system comprises the following components:
- Touch Screen Display (TSD)
- Navigation computer
- global positioning system (GPS) antenna
- Traffic Message Channel (TMC) receiver (Except Japan)
- TMC antenna amplifier (Except Japan)
- Vehicle Information and Communication Systems (VICS) receiver (Japan only)
- VICS beacon antenna (Japan only)
- Integrated Head Unit (IHU)
- Microphone
All vehicles with navigation feature voice recognition and Traffic Message Channel (TMC) (Europe and NAS markets only) or Vehicle Information and Communication Systems (VICS) (Japan only). Enhanced navigation includes on road and off road navigation functionality.
4X4 i is only available on vehicles fitted with satellite navigation and provides the driver with additional vehicle status information which is displayed on the TSD. The information provides the driver with functional information relating to the vehicle powertrain and chassis and is of most benefit when driving off-road.
The TSD displays a graphical representation of the vehicle systems to provide an easy to understand vehicle status display. The 4X4 i system displays the following information:
- Steering angle
- Transfer box status
- Hill Descent Control (HDC) status
- Automatic transmission status
- Air suspension status
- Wheel height information
- Compass indication
- Venture Cam view and set-up.
