Actuator Test

  1. Actuator Arm Inspection

Using hand pressure, ensure actuator arm moves smoothly. If actuator arm does not move smoothly, replace actuator. See Fig 1. If actuator arm moves smoothly, disconnect actuator 7-pin connector and go to next step.

  2. Magnetic Clutch Inspection

Using jumper wires, connect positive lead of battery to actuator connector terminal No. 5. See Fig 2. Connect negative lead of battery to actuator connector terminal No. 4. Using hand pressure, try to move actuator arm. If actuator arm moves, replace actuator. If actuator arm does not move, go to next step.

  3. Motor Inspection

With jumper wires still connected to actuator connector as in step 2), connect another jumper wire between positive terminal of battery and actuator connector terminal No. 6. See Fig 3. Connect another jumper wire between negative terminal of battery and actuator connector terminal No. 7. Actuator motor should start and actuator arm should move smoothly to open position. See Fig 1. When arm reaches full open position, motor should stop. If actuator operation is as specified, go to next step. If actuator does not operate as specified, replace actuator.

  4. Reverse positive and negative leads on actuator connector terminals No. 6 and 7. Actuator motor should start and arm should move smoothly to closed position. When full closed position is reached, motor should stop. See Fig 1. If actuator operation is as specified, go to next step. If actuator operation is not as specified, replace actuator.
  5. Position Sensor Inspection

Measure resistance between actuator connector terminals No. 1 and 3. If resistance is about 2000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not about 2000 ohms, replace actuator.
  6. Moving actuator arm from closed to open position, measure resistance between actuator connector terminals No. 1 and 3. If resistance is 500-1700 ohms, actuator operation is okay. If resistance is not 500-1700 ohms, replace actuator.
