Using Scan Tool
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) No. 3. See Figure. Turn ignition and scan tool on. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and freeze frame data.
- If scan tool is able to connect and communicate with the vehicle, go to next step. If scan tool displays UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE, try scan tool on another vehicle. If scan tool still displays UNABLE TO CONNECT TO VEHICLE, check for defective scan tool. If scan tool operates correctly on another vehicle, check for proper voltage and resistance at DLC No. 3. See DLC NO. 3 SPECIFICATIONS table. See Figure. If voltage or resistance is not within specification, check wiring to DLC No. 3. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

- If any DTCs are retrieved, see ENGINE IMMOBILIZER DTC DEFINITIONS table for DTC definition and possible causes, and then proceed to appropriate DTC test listed under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS . Once all repairs are performed, clear DTCs from Engine Control Module (ECM). See CLEARING CODES .
