Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Check the condition of each related circuit connector before troubleshooting (See ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).

  1. CHECK DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
    2. Turn the engine switch off.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and check that no CAN communication system DTC is output.
    4. Start the engine.
    5. Drive the vehicle and turn the steering wheel to the right and left at a speed of 24 mph (35 km/h) and check that no brake control system DTC (C1231/31) is output (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      Neither CAN communication system DTC nor brake control system DTC (C1231/31) is output A
      CAN communication system DTC is output B
      Brake control system DTC (C1231/31) is output C

      HINT:

      When DTCs indicating a CAN communication system malfunction are output, repair the CAN communication system before repairing each corresponding sensor.

    B: REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 

    C: REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K19-1 (IG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 10 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IG CIRCUIT) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (ESS CIRCUIT) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      K19-2 (ESS) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
