Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the E46 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the voltage.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      PI (E46-18) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the E46 ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the combination meter E14 connector.
    3. Measure the resistance.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E14-4 - PI (E46-18) Below 1Ω
      E14-4 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the combination meter connector.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - ECM) 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the E13 combination meter connector.

    3. Measure the voltage.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E13-2 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the combination meter connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER BATTERY) 

    OK: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
