Short To VAPS Module

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1992 Ford Probe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition on, leave engine off. Put transmission in Park. Disconnect Variable Assist Power Steering (VAPS) control module connector, instrument panel connector and PRC control module connector. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. Measure voltage between Green/Red wire in PRC control module connector and ground.
  2. If voltage is 6 volts or more, repair Green/Red wire for short to VAPS control module. If voltage reading is less than 6 volts, proceed to PINPOINT TEST Q1. If PINPOINT TEST Q has been performed, replace PRC control module.
