Testing Procedure
Two warning lights (ANTI-LOCK and BRAKE) alert vehicle operator of problems in braking system. Red BRAKE warning light monitors master cylinder fluid level and parking brake lever status. Amber ANTI-LOCK warning light alerts vehicle operator of problems in ABS.
When trouble shooting ABS, use test procedures in the order they are presented. Using other than recommended procedure could result in wasted time and/or unnecessary parts replacement.
Testing should be done in following sequence:
- Perform PRETEST CHECKS .
- If ANTI-LOCK and BRAKE warning lights are both on, see WARNING LIGHT SYMPTOM SEQUENCE CHART. See Figure .
- If ANTI-LOCK warning light is on, retrieve codes and perform appropriate pinpoint test. See RETRIEVING CODES . If Super Star II tester is not available, perform ABS QUICK CHECK CHART. See Figure .
- If pinpoint test steps continually lead to verify or reverify symptom, go to ABS QUICK CHECK CHART. See Figure .
