Test B: Flash Code 1 - Speed Control Is Inoperative

  1. Check Speedometer Operation  - Test drive vehicle and observe speedometer operation. If speedometer operates properly, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate properly, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANEL article to continue diagnosis.
  2. Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuitry  Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo/actuator connector C103 (located behind left headlight). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and speed control servo/actuator connector C103 terminal No. 3. See Fig 1 . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair Dark Green/White or Gray/Black wire between speed control servo/actuator and VSS. Perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST.
  3. Check Dark Green/White & Gray/Black Wires For Open  Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect VSS connector C111 (located on left rear side of transmission). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between speed control servo/actuator connector C103 terminal No. 3 and VSS connector C111 Gray/Black wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace speed control servo/actuator and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Dark Green/White wire or Gray/Black wire between speed control servo/actuator and VSS. Perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST.
