Torque Converter Leak Check

  1. Clean the outside surface of the torque converter.
  2. Install the special tool into the converter hub.

  3. WARNING: Always follow proper safety procedures while using a press to avoid personal injury.

  4. Position the torque converter with installed special tool into an arbor press. Secure the press. Apply enough force from the press to seal the tool into the torque converter.
  5. NOTE: Use clean dry shop air.

  6. Using the special tool, apply air pressure to the valve.
  7. WARNING: To prevent injury, wear eye protection when using pressurized air.

  8. With air pressure applied to the valve, inspect for leaks at the converter hub, seams and studs. A soap bubble solution may be applied around those areas to aid in diagnosis. If any leaks are present, replace converter.
  9. Remove the air hose. Release the pressure and then slowly release the press. Remove the torque converter. Remove the tool.
