Test H: Memory Seat Does Not Operate Using Remote Transmitter

WARNING: Vehicle may be equipped with seatback-mounted air bags. Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving seat components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
CAUTION: On models equipped with side air bags, Air Bag Simulator (40-009) MUST be connected to all air bag floor harness connectors. After diagnosis/repair, air bag simulator must be removed prior to operating vehicle.
  1. Ensure vehicle is in Park. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect NGS tester, to DLC. Retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Clear Continuous DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform DSM self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TEST INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Adjust driver's side seat to new position, and store for memory position No. 1. Adjust driver's side seat to different position, and press UNLOCK on remote transmitter. If driver's side seat moves to position No. 1, go to next step. If driver's side seat does not move to position No. 1, ensure remote transmitter batteries are okay and diagnose remote keyless entry system. See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - EXPEDITION & NAVIGATOR article.
  3. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect memory set switch harness connector C503. Disconnect Central Security Module (CSM) harness connector C257. CSM is located behind left side of instrument panel. See Figure. Measure resistance in Brown/Light Green wire between memory set switch harness connector C503 terminal No. 4 and CSM harness connector C257 terminal No. 6. Measure resistance in Black/Orange wire between memory set switch harness connector C503 terminal No. 3 and CSM harness connector C257 terminal No. 18. If each resistance is 5 ohms or less, diagnose remote keyless entry system. See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - EXPEDITION & NAVIGATOR article. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire(s) between memory set switch and CSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
